Setting up New Orleans area feed
« on: June 28, 2007, 12:48:19 AM »
Still only have one problem and no solutions. Transmissions are heard loud and clear when the nearby computer is off, but once the nearby laptop computer is turned on, interference occurs. Has anyone else had this problem with their scanners being near a computer? Every once in a while it comes through clear but it is hit and miss. Anyone have any solutions. The scanner is quite old (AOR AR-1000XLT), and I have a new scanner on the way too see if that will make things better.

Thanks,
Bryce

This problem is starting to get very weird. Whenever I have the computer on, and I just plug one end of the audio cable in to the computer and leave the other end dangling there, the scanner goes static, squelch at max. When I unplug it, it goes back to normal. I don't see how plugging something into a computer and not having anything to do with the operation of the scanner changes what results I get. I can't wait until I get this new scanner, it will rule out quite a bit.

Ya, I'm glad I don't work with radios professionally. Nothing ever seems to work right with me.

You can't have a computer close to your receiver without using an outside antenna that is far enough away to not pick up the computer interference.  That's likely your issue.
