Retirement Flight for Father (Help Requested)
« on: November 17, 2023, 11:51:09 AM »
I am a first time poster, so please direct me if this is in the wrong place.

My dad is retiring from flying this coming week after 33 years in commercial aviation and another 8 years flying for the U.S. Air Force. He is the captain on the Delta flight from Rome->New York on the 21st of November. The flight number is DL231 11/21 from FCO to JFK and it's scheduled to take off at 12:35 local time and land at 4:45pm EST.

I was wondering if anyone working the air traffic control towers that day might be able to share a note of congratulations, well done, happy retirement, etc.

Is anyone aware of a way to record the final flight? I tried to put in a help request here at LiveATC to see if we could pay for a recording.

We are very proud of him!

Best,
Jarrod

Hello Jarrod,

It's definitely possible that the right air traffic controller will see this post and with any luck will recognize his retirement.  I hope that happens!

As for recording the flight, since he's flying in from Europe going into JFK, his flight path will take him over northeastern US airspace.  Fortunately, there are plenty of LiveATC feeds that cover the airspace he will be flying through and it should be no trouble putting a recording together.

All the best to your Dad on his upcoming retirement!

Ron

P.S.  Look for a PM that I'll be sending you shortly...

Thank you, Ron! I got your PM and will respond here in a moment. Thank you for your help and appreciate your well wishes for my Dad. We're heading up there with the family to be at the gate when he lands
