Question about hosting a feed.

UNAL1062:
Hello everyone,

First i'd like to say I've been listening to the KJFK feed for quite some time now, and I really enjoy it. I appreciate all the hard work that everyone has put into making these streams possible!! Anyways, I live just south of KBWI ( maybe 25 nautical miles?). Over my house, the airspace is controlled by Patuxent Approach. I would like to host a feed for this, but the only problem is the my scanner hardly holds the transmission, its very "staticy". I'm pretty sure it is the antenna on my scanner causing this. Is there any way I could build some type of antenna to better pick up this frequency, so it is clear for hosting? Thanks again for your help.

That's the one I use on the Columbus feed.  Get it up high and outside if possible.

Well, if you are the slightest bit handy, for about $10.00 in parts you can build an excellent antenna and "cut it" or build it to receive the exact frequency you are interest in.

I got and followed these plans

I used the coat hangars as suggested in this article, and for a second antenna for my second feed I used slightly thicker wire I found in a hobby shop.

Both are mounted in my attic. I do have the distinct advantage of living only a few mile from the airport, and I'm sure that's a huge factor in the quality of signal, but these simple inexpensive antennas work very well for me.

Hope this helps

PHL Approach:
Here is the antenna that I use for the "Soon to Return" ZNY/ZDC Feed. http://www.grove-ent.com/ANT9.html

If your 25 to the south of BWI, You have to pick up atleast one Potomac Tracon sector.

MIAMIATC:
That would be an excellent feed down in the DC/BWI/IAD area.I booked a hotel down in Laurel MD a couple of times just for the mere reason of listening to Potomac Tracon and I am from NJ(nut that I am when it comes to listening to ARTCC) Where I stood I must have been close to the transmitter that covers the 133.975,126.875,and 132.775 sector of Wash ATRCC(HIgh Sectors). Loads of action down there.I've personally been wanting to hear a feed from there added here for the longest. The above freq's. that I listed you can here both pilot and controller reallky well. We'll happy listening.Continue the fabulous work Dave for some of us die hard Aircraft monitoring fans this site is Heaven especially when you have all the charts to go with it.Thanks again
