Potamac approach control areas?
« on: April 26, 2009, 10:40:03 AM »
Overnight, I flew to Richmond and back in my FBOs Seminole (FlightAware link below).  We were switched from ZDC to Potomac control when we were still about 100 miles from RIC.  I had no idea that Potomac controlled that much airspace.

Does anyone know off-hand Potomac's airspace boundaries?  Like how far north/south/east/west they control?

PCT (Potomac Consolidated Tracon) own a lot of airspace.  It really just depends on where you are approaching RIC from.  You came from the west and went through CHOWE, CHOEA, before you got to RIC.  The link below has the 4 areas layed out by position, and freq.

Hope this helps

Potomac has a lot of airspace...from the MD/PA state line, west to Winchester, va, east to APG (aberdeen proving grounds), south to almost PXT vor, then picks up again about 30 miles north of RIC west past CHO, north to winchester, va again...the BWI area owns up to 17000 and the DCA area owns up to FL230.

All set. Not that it's the real facility, but there are airspace maps on the virtual ZDC website (VATSIM) that seem to be pretty much spot on. http://dcartcc.org/soploa.php.
