How DO you secure every small airport and commuter plane and is the pain and expense worth it?

Pity there are no New Zealand feeds to liveatc.net - C'mon Kiwis! - or does NZ have the same rules as the UK forbidding such activity?  Many NZ laws are based on UK precedents.

Yep...there were a number of NZ feeds on here until one particular controler at HAMILTON TOWER decided he didn't like his voice being transmitted over the internet. It forced LiveATC.net to remove all of our feeds.
