CFB Trenton spokesman Capt. Mark Peebles said the pilot was a civilian who was flying the T-33 aircraft back to its owner in Fort Worth, Texas. He said the plane took off shortly after noon Wednesday but after it was airborne it had to return to the tarmac for an unknown reason and skidded off the runway.

Glad the pilot made out OK.

These are nice looking aircrafts.  I remember them coming into Moncton (CYQM) on a regular basis and always did like the look of them, especially when they bank.

"We sell them as-is, where-is. There is no guarantee," Neil Cuddihy, a civilian serving as aviation assets disposal officer for the Department of National Defence.

Open hatch caused jet crash: officials

"The aircraft crash resulted from the left-side armament door in the nose area of the aircraft fully opening while airborne," Capt. Mark Peebles said Tuesday in a press release.

"The pilot brought the aircraft back to the ground but was unable to stop the aircraft before leaving the end of the runway."
