NTSB using 93 foot section of TWA 800 as training tool
« on: September 07, 2010, 07:41:08 PM »
Since 2004, the NTSB Training Center in Ashburn, VA, has featured a 93 foot section of Boeing 747-131 N93119 (cn 20083/153), the aircraft that was destroyed July 17th, 1996, while operating KJFK-LFPG  as TWA Flight 800. 230 people lost their lives when the jumbo jet exploded in mid-air. There are a couple amazing pics of the remains of N93119 on the website linked to below.

"Instructional Wreckage Underwater recovery and wreckage reconstruction were some of the extraordinary skills needed to determine the cause of several recent accidents, including the flight of TWA 800. The reconstruction of the center fuselage of this Boeing 747 was the largest and most complex ever undertaken in the history of civil aviation. It is now being used as an important teaching and training tool at the Training Center."

Below is possibly the last pic of Boeing 747-131 N93119 (cn 20083/153) ever taken...it was snapped in June, 1996 at KJFK, one month before that tragic flight...

You know..

Not for the faint of heart, but I do have the audio of TWA800 from ZNY Center if someone would like it posted. If someone wants it, I'll throw it up into the Clips section of the forum.

Okay, it is posted in the Clips section. I don't know how long it will be up there, because.. well.. it is TWA800. All the info plus a bit more is available there.

There is a good amount of technical info for those who may not be familiar with the loss of TWA 800 here:
