Hello,
I had a thought that I wanted to share and get people's opinion on. I think that Memorial day is not just to remember our fallen heroes in combat but it's a time to remember the pilots who risk their lives everyday just by taking people from place to place. Anything can happen. A plane is a dangerous mode of transportation--as long as you do it right the chances are smaller that something bad will happen.
Memorial day is also a time where pilots who have risked their lives are remembered. For example the pilots that died on 9/11, they didn't know what was going to happen, and just as we're talking about the black boxes of this Air France jet that crashed in 2009 we need to be thankful for the people that we have that are still willing to fly even after these horrible tragedies. We also need to remind ourselves that the new order of the world is vigilance--if you see something suspicious you got to take action. Who knows, you may just save somebody's life.
And you can also use as an example the miracle on the hudson. The captain was brave to do what he decided to do. He could have just decided let's all die because there's nothing we can do. However he used his instinct and common sense to land in the river and save everyone. So not only is Memorial day a time to remember soldiers, it is also a time to remember the people, living or dead, that have risked their lives to save other people's lives.
At this time I would like to say thank you to you all.
