Heathrow Protest on top of A320
« on: February 25, 2008, 10:42:22 AM »
Plans for a third parallel runway at Heathrow are running up against well organised protesters.  A novel protest by Greenpeace activists had them climbing atop an A320  today - see: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7262614.stm

news vision at: http://www.bbc.co.uk/mediaselector/check/player/nol/newsid_7260000/newsid_7262900?redirect=7262914.stm&news=1&nbwm=1&bbwm=1&nbram=1&bbram=1&asb=1

Some of the protest is based on objections to growth in air travel in general (especially climate change issues) but a lot of the local support is based on concerns about the large area to the north of the current airport that will be acquired and bulldozed as part of the plan including the entire village of Sipson.  It must be remembered that this is a very heavily populated part of the UK.  See http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/4731948.stm
