I just read an article about what the Aeropurtos Espanoles y Navegacion Aerea  {AENA},aipport managers in Spain, use to control birds. They use falcons and hawks, and inconjuction with ATC they release the birds to do their job.

During a busy time they release the birds every 10 minutes,on quiter periods every 30 minutes.

It take them about 3 to 4 months to train them and need extensive care 365 days of the year which is very expensive.
Besides that AENA believe that it is the best and most effiective way to keep the airfield free of birds.

Have any pilots out there have any experience of a bird strike?
