CYQB feed mixed-up?
« on: April 03, 2006, 12:48:22 AM »
Hi everyone!

I'm quite new here and discovered I could listen to CYQB (Quebec Jean-Lesage), my previous home town, from 300km away (via the feed, of course!) What a joy! Our local airport in my town has about 10 movements per day, nothing really exciting.

So, I've been listening for a week now and since last friday, I think the CYQB feed is mixed up. When I click to listen the feed, I hear CYOW (Ottawa MacDonald-Cartier), and there's no such feed in the list.

Could someone confirm I'm not the problem? ;-)

The Quebec City and Ottawa terminal controllers are actually both located in Montreal (part of Montreal Center). Late at night during off peak times I've heard them combine both sectors so that one controller is working both airports. Which is kind of interesting because both airports are about 200 nautical miles from each other. I'm guessing this is what you heard ? DJ

They do the same thing with Regina and Saskatoon terminals during the slow periods in the day.  The Canadian Radar displays have the capability of displaying inset windows with different areas, so they'll work with the slower terminal in a smaller window over part of the main display.  Not ideal, but it allows the controllers to just watch the two terminal areas without having to display all the airspace in between (which is under someone elses control).

Distance between the locations isn't a problem when using the insets.  It is entirely possible to work two terminals that are 800 miles apart on the same screen.

Just to add non essential info to that, Montreal ACC is divided into sub-unit.

The sub-uniy that you are talking about is "Capitals": that is Quebec City Terminal (capital of Quebec Province) and Ottawa Terminal (Canada's Capital).....

This been said, If ever Nordique's come back to Québec, then theses guys will be on the line...

Ottawa Sens

Quebec Nordiques

but....

Living in Montreal Habs....
