Audcaity is quite good, its simple fast and easy to use. To record stuff that you are hearing fire up Audacity, then go:

1. Edit --> Preferences
2. Click the Audio I/O tab if not already selected
3. Select the Recording Device drop down box and select What U Hear (this may differ depending on your soundcard)
4. Hit the OK button
5. Press the Record button :)

For me I don't have to bother with this stuff as I use a mixing desk and all my audio is fed back into the soundcard. I hope this is what you were looking for.

Thanks!

Audacity is the free tool (well, okay - open source tool) of the trade.  Get it here:  http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/

Jacko was right on except one thing:  If I am correct in my interpretation of what you are looking for you want to take an MP3 clip already in the archives here and trim it down or edit it to just the essential comms, correct?  If so, you simply use the FILE -> OPEN command in Audacity to open the MP3 clip that you are looking to edit.

Note also that after you edit the clip and if you are looking to save the file back to an MP3 file you need to tell Audacity where there is a LAME_ENC.DLL file is located first.  This file is the code Audacity uses to convert an edited file back to an MP3 file.  Most computers already have this file on their computer (WinAmp and Windows Media Player include it) and you can search for it using Windows Explorer first.  Otherwise if you have difficulty locating it on your computer you can get one free here (instructions for what to do with it are here also):  http://audacity.sourceforge.net/help/faq?s=install&item=lame-mp3

Hi Dave,

Jacko and KSYR-pjr hit it right on for Audacity!

I've been using Audacity also for all my recordings and like KSRY mentions you will need the LAME_ENC.DLL

Give it a try. If you need any help I can help you out.

Did you get recordings of the Flying Heritage event today?

Ken
