China Airlines fire video
« on: August 20, 2007, 10:17:35 PM »

This is some amazing video of the China Airlines 737-800 that blew up
Monday after the plane landed at Naha airport in Japan.
Thank God everyone got off unharmed...

That's some good timing right there. Was pretty close.

Why would the crew evacuate the passengers and themselves on the SAME SIDE of the aircraft that had the engine fire?  Rule 1 of any sort of evacuation is to keep everyone as far AWAY from any hazard as possible.

The failure to do this - including by the cockpit crew - suggests, at best, a lack of awareness of the nature of their problem or poor co-ordination between crew members.

Hindsight is 20/20 but it seems this could have been handled a bit better.  This makes the survival of all concerned even luckier.

Panop

They weren't evacutaing them on the same side as the fire. It was on the port side but starting to advance under the aircraft and intruding on the starboard.

Don't rely on a 15 seconds of Utube video.

Also wind was blowing smoke away from escape route. If evacuating other side passengers would have been in smoke!

I stand corrected.  My hindsight wasn't even 20/20!
