Hi,
First can I express the awesomeness of this site
secondly, I am charged as per data usage by my ISP and im trying to get an idea of how much bandwidth I will use while listening to a stream.
Are these streams 16 k bytes / sec or 16 k bits / sec
I work out roughly that if the streams are k-bytes/sec, I will get roughly 1 minute of listening per megabyte of bandwidth.
If the streams are k-bits/sec, would that work out to be roughly 50 minutes of listening per megabyte of bandwidth?
lastly, I understand the law regarding UK ATC streams, I take it liveatc.net wouldn't risk offering UK streams even if people in proximity of UK airports could offer them?
Thanks
16kb/s (kilobits per second)
which is about 7.2 MB/hour or 172.8 MB/day (MB = megabytes)
As the other pjr mentioned, we do this only out of respect for the U.K. law. For the record, we have no obligation whatsoever to abide by that law since we are not subject to the law. I would hate for a U.K. citizen to be identified somehow as feeding one of those airports and then be prosecuted under the silly law. Not worth the trouble.
The downside is that there is a plentiful supply of folks who want to feed a variety of U.K. Airports, including plenty for EGLL.
We did have a few feeds for a short amount of time - but the fact of the matter is that there are folks who love to ruin a good thing and cry to the authorities.
Bottom line - we don't need the hassle.
