N90 has been having numerous frequency interference and performance issues in the Newark area. Most of the frequency changes have been temporary, and we have an inside line into what's going on. We'll add a feed for 132.7 soon since it may be in more regular use. They have even gone back to 128.55 a few times even though 128.8 had been in use for the ARD Sector. From our receiver site near EWR, 132.8 is not a useful frequency to cover since it is aircraft only, but we'l monitor and see what we can hear since it's been a while since it was last checked. The ground transmitter for that is at/near Solberg (out of range of our EWR rx site).

A World Atlantic Airlines McDonnell Douglas MD-83, registration N804WA performing flight WL-101 from El Paso,TX to McAllen,TX (USA) with 141 people on board, was in the initial climb out of El Paso's runway 04 when the crew declared Mayday reporting they had lost an engine (JT8D). The aircraft stopped the climb at 5500 feet and positioned for a return to runway 04, then switched to runway 26L. After touch down on runway 26L the crew reported they had a fire on their right hand engine. Emergency Services put the fire out.

El Paso's Emergency Services reported there were no injuries, they were able to "knock" the fire down.

I always appreciate separate feeds when it can be done.  Much easier to follow routine operations, and you don't miss big chunks of unusual operations while the scanner is on other frequencies.

AAL590 had just started their takeoff roll when a tire blew out on the right-side wing landing gear.  Video of the incident clearly shows the tire blowing out at a fairly high rate of speed but the crew rejected the takeoff and turned left off the end of the runway.  They stopped there and waited for emergency equipment to arrive.  No injuries were reported and the passengers deplaned safely and the flight was cancelled.

A Delta Airlines Airbus A320-200, registration N373NW performing flight DL-2097 from Atlanta,GA to Rochester,NY (USA) with 142 people on board, was climbing out of Atlanta's runway 08R when the crew declared emergency reporting they had a right hand engine (CFM56) failure. The crew positioned for a return to Atlanta's runway 08L and landed safely back about 15 minutes after departure and stopped briefly on the runway for an inspection by emergency services.

A replacement Airbus A320-200 registration N319US reached Rochester with a delay of about 4.5 hours.

The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground in Atlanta about 29 hours after landing back.
