Listener Forum / Re: HF CAR Request ?
« Last post by dave on Today at 08:41:45 AM »
Have some more receiver capacity now and made some changes. Still a work in progress. New feeds so far:

HF CAR-A 13297 NH
HF CAR-A 8825 NH
HF NAT-A 13306 NH

New HF model is SDR receivers only (combination of KiwiSDR 1 and 2 models) with a Linux-based client system running kiwiclientd.py (Python code). That system has been in operation for a while but a legacy Linux system feeding from a few analog receivers failed recently. No intention of resurrecting it right away. It changed frequencies on those receivers twice per day, attempting to follow HF propagation. With daily, seasonal and sunspot changes over time it was hard to keep a reasonable frequency change schedule up to date. Doing it all via SDR and over the LAN is a lot easier and more flexible. Also, fewer cables and lower power!

Still have to add some of the lost NAT frequencies back.

Overall review and more suggestions welcome. Too far away from the West Coast to think about Pacific frequencies. Perhaps someone closer to  the West Coast will get interested in feeding those.

Talked to a pilot friend a few weeks ago who flies the WATRs routes and less and less traffic is on HF these days. SELCAL checks and backup for emergencies. The rest of the comms are on CPDLC.

(it's becoming almost too common, just hear how calm the pilot is, like, oh, I think we'll just go to Baltimore, like it's not a big deal :))

Ameteorologist aboard an American Airlines flight bound for Florida said her flight was diverted to Maryland after it struck a bird while taking off.

According to information posted on airline tracker FlightAware, American Airlines flight AA4168—operated by Envoy Air—from Reagan National Airport (DCA) in the Washington, D.C., area was scheduled to land at Key West International Airport (EYW) at 4:00 p.m. ET on Wednesday. However, FlightAware's data shows the aircraft was diverted to Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) in Anne Arundel County, Maryland.
Taylor Grenda, a meteorologist at Washington, D.C.'s, Fox 5 station, said on X (formerly Twitter) that she was on the flight, adding it was rerouted due to a collision with a bird.

"Flight from DCA to Key West didn't go as planned. Struck a bird taking off. Circled Maryland for a long time. Just safely landed at BWI," Grenda wrote.
"American Eagle flight 4168, operated by Envoy, with service from Washington, DC (DCA) to Key West (EYW) diverted to Baltimore (BWI) due to a possible bird strike," the statement said. "The aircraft landed without incident and taxied to the gate under its own power, where it will be inspected by our maintenance team. We're working to get customers on their way to EYW as soon as possible and apologize for any inconvenience."

Feed provider has been contacted and will check things out as soon as possible. It may take a little time for the provider to get to the feed site.  Hopefully sooner rather than later...

Looking at it now, it shows as up, but there is evidence of network instability at the feed site.  Also noticed that the feed shows that it is up but there's no audio so LiveATC is looking into that issue.

Listener Forum / ZNY using 121.12 Out of Douglaston RCAG
« Last post by RonR on April 30, 2024, 02:01:57 PM »
For those out there that are interested in this kind of stuff (Jetscan...), ZNY has been simulcasting the controller comms for ZNY86 (Atlantic Sector) on 121.125 almost certainly out of the Douglaston RCAG.  Stumbled across this quite by accident yesterday and so far it has continued to today.  No way to tell how long it's been like this and, of course, no way to tell how long it'll stay like this.  It has been added to the ZBW/ZNY/ZDC (JFK Area) #3 feed...
