Aviation Audio Clips / UPS2949 Flight Control Issues Returns to KOAK
« Last post by RonR on Today at 10:33:00 AM »
On May 10, UPS2949, an MD-11 enroute from KOAK to KONT, had just departed runway 30 at KOAK when the flight crew called Norcal Departure and advised them that were stopping their climb at 4000 feet due to flight control issues.  They declared Mayday a few minutes later and asked to return to KOAK's runway 30.  They landed safely about 15 minutes later and taxied back to the apron on their own.

https://www.reuters.com/world/us/wing-trumps-plane-hit-corporate-jet-west-palm-beach-airport-source-says-2024-05-14/

WASHINGTON, May 14 (Reuters) - Former U.S. President Donald Trump's private Boeing 757 clipped another corporate jet while taxiing at West Palm Beach International Airport in Florida on Sunday, a source familiar with the incident said on Tuesday.
The Federal Aviation Administration said in a statement that a privately owned 757 contacted a parked and unoccupied corporate jet at the south Florida airport. The FAA statement did not identify the plane as belonging to Trump.  The incident occurred in an area of the airport where the FAA does not direct aircraft, the agency said, adding that it is investigating.
The Trump campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Trump held a rally in Wildwood, New Jersey, on Saturday. The incident occurred after the plane landed at the West Palm Beach airport at about 1:20 a.m. on Sunday.
Trump's 757 is a staple of airport presidential campaign rallies and at one rally in Ohio in March a voice announced: "Trump Force One, you are cleared for landing."
Trump purchased his $100 million Boeing 757 in 2010 and the heavily customized plane includes gold plated accents, two private guestrooms, three bathrooms, dining and conference areas and an extensive entertainment system. The plane was built in 1991.
Trump in January urged Boeing to resume building the 757, which it discontinued in 2004. "Boeing should bring back the 757, the most beautiful, best handling plane (from the pilots standpoint!) that Boeing ever made," he said on social media.

(had to dig this one out of the mud, so excuse the rough edges, glad all ok, and plane looks in good shape too)

Listener Forum / Re: ZNY using 121.12 Out of Douglaston RCAG
« Last post by RonR on May 09, 2024, 10:39:45 PM »
Just noticed that ZNY is once again simulcasting 133.5 and 125.925 on 121.125... (same controller working both sectors)

At the same time ZNY is also using 128.675 today, simulcasting the controller from both 125.325 and 127.175 (controller working both sectors most of the day today).

Both of these frequencies are out of the Douglaston RCAG Happy listening!

Aviation Audio Clips / DAL1435 Nose Gear Problem Descending into KATL
« Last post by RonR on May 09, 2024, 09:50:15 PM »
DAL1435 was descending through about 12000 feet when the flight crew checked in with Atlanta approach and told them they had landing gear issue (gear disagree).  They slowed to 210 Kts so they could extend the landing gear and evaluate the situation.  They descended to 7000 feet and extended their landing gear.  The flight crew then declared an emergency stating the nose gear did not come down.  They asked for delaying vectors while they ran checklists and contacted their maintenance.  They then asked to perform a low approach over KATL's runway 27R so that the tower personnel could see whether or not the nose gear had come down.  The tower controller as well as an aircraft on the ground confirmed that the nose gear had come down.  They came around and landed safely a short time later on the same runway.  The taxied off the runway and stopped on a taxiway so that emergency crews could check out the aircraft.

Here's the DCA audio from 4/18...

This one wasn't even a multiple-controller multiple-frequency issue.  BTW did you get the DCA near-miss on 4/18 the day after the JFK one, didn't see that one on here (VAS Aviation did a youtube video on it)

I saw a YT clip based on a LiveATC recording, with conflicting ATC instructions in Orlando on May 6th, 2024. Tower cleared AA-2473 (A321) for takeoff on 18L, then cleared Frontier 1734 (A320) to cross the same runway. AA2473 rejected the takeoff when seeing crossing traffic and had to return to gate (check brakes/refuel/change underwear/write reports/...).

I wanted to hear the untrimmed version of this event - with the original timing. So, I pulled the original recording from the archives. The attached file is only trimmed at the beginning and the end. Silence and unrelated instructions in between are all unchanged.

Some timestamps (for the attached/untrimmed recording, not for the YT video):

1:52: ATC clears AA2473 to line up & wait on 18L.
2:09: ATC clears AA2473 for takeoff.
3:12: ATC clears Frontier F9-1734 to cross 18L. ATC sounded distracted, pausing multiple times.
4:00: ATC cancels takeoff clearance of AA2473.
4:08: AA2473 reports having seen other traffic crossing, while they were accelerating for takeoff.
4:21: AA2473 needs to return to gate.
