(Picked him coming into Washington Center, never shot off a Mayday or PanPan, just that something with the autopilot.  RIP and thoughts, prayers with the families)

FLUVANNA COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) - Virginia State Police (VSP) have confirmed two deaths following an early Sunday morning plane crash.

At 8:54 a.m. officials were alerted to reports of a plane crash in Fluvanna County.

Debris from a small, private plane was located in a wooded area near the 200 block of Miles Jackson Road in Palmyra.

The impact of the crash caused portions of the plane to catch fire. The Palmyra, Fork Union, Kents Store, and Lake Monticello Fire Companies responded to the scene to extinguish the fire and assist law enforcement.

According to a press release from VSP, both the pilot and passenger within the privately owned, twin-engine aircraft did not survive the crash.

VSP is still in the process of notifying the next of kin, and both bodies are being transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Richmond for examination and autopsy.

The aircraft left the Manassas Regional Airport early Sunday morning and was flying toward South Carolina.

The crash remains under investigation.

On May 5, BAW18B was departing Bermuda enroute to London and had just started their takeoff roll when the tower cancelled their takeoff clearance because of a bomb threat they had just received.  The flight crew stopped the aircraft on the runway and waited for emergency equipment to arrive.  The emergency equipment however did not come all the way out to the aircraft because of their own protocols preventing them from getting close to the aircraft until the police bomb disposal unit gave the "all clear".  Meanwhile, the passengers were still on the plane and the captain was anxious to get them off.  The aircraft eventually taxied off the runway but it was now 40 minutes since they aborted their takeoff.  The captain wanted to get the passengers off the plane and told the tower that he would evacuate the passengers via the slides if they couldn't get air stairs out to the plane quick enough.  The air stairs eventually arrived; the passengers exited the plane and had to walk back to the terminal (no busses were available).  At the same time the airport also received a bomb threat for the terminal so it too was evacuated.

Aviation Audio Clips / UAL1929 Runway Incursion After Landing at KMCO
« Last post by RonR on May 04, 2024, 09:17:29 AM »
On April 26, UAL1929 had just landed on runway 18R at KMCO and was exiting the runway when the tower instructed them to "taxi via E and hold short of 18L".  The flight crew, on the other hand, read back "taxi via E and cross 18L".  This error was not challenged by the tower controller.  SWA5777 had been given clearance for takeoff on runway 18L and had reached a speed of about 110 Kts when the tower controller cancelled the takeoff clearance.  The Southwest flight crew was able to stop their takeoff roll long before they would have reached the United aircraft crossing the runway.  SWA5777 departed normally about 25 minutes later.

Aviation Audio Clips / AAL747 Diverts to KDFW with Hydraulic Problems
« Last post by RonR on May 03, 2024, 03:04:47 PM »
On April 29, AAL747 was enroute to Las Vegas (KLAS) from Miami (KMIA) at FL360 when the flight crew diverted to Dallas/Fort Worth (KDFW) possibly due to hydraulic problems.  They did not dump any fuel and landed overweight a short time later on KDFW's runway 18R.  They stopped on the runway so that the emergency crews could check out the aircraft after which they taxied to the gate on their own.  The attached audio picks up from the point the flight crew contacted Regional Approach descending to 6000 feet.

Aviation Audio Clips / A twin engine plane crashed in a field in DeLand
« Last post by KB4TEZ on May 03, 2024, 06:02:16 AM »
(Never did hear any audio from the plane, so what you will hear is another airport community come together as they searched and found the downed aircraft,
injured, but alive after it was located.)

A twin-engine plane crashed in DeLand Thursday afternoon in a field off Eidson Drive near State Road 11 at around 2:20 p.m., seriously injuring the 72-year-old male pilot, who was taken to the hospital as a trauma alert, according to authorities.

No one else was on board, according to the Federal Aviation Administration, which will investigate the accident along with the National Transportation Safety Board. The plane crashed very near the DeLand Municipal Airport.

Where did the DeLand plane crash happen?
"It looks like it's some kind of cow pasture," Vicki Karr, public safety spokeswoman for the city of DeLand said of where the crippled airplane ended up.
The FAA identified the craft as a twin-engine Admore Aircam. According to a company website, the "AirCam is a twin-engine open cockpit experimental amateur-built aircraft designed and engineered with safety, visibility, and versatility in mind."

Aviation Audio Clips / AAL1263 Engine Failure After Departing KDCA

On May 2, AAL1263 (an Airbus A319) was climbing out of KDCA enroute to KORD in Chicago when the flight crew declared a Mayday after their right-hand engine failed.  They diverted to KIAD (Dulles) and landed safely about 15 minutes later.  The attached audio unfortunately does not include the approach and landing at Dulles due to any issue with the KIAD feed site at the time.
