YPPH Upgraded Feed
« on: May 26, 2015, 11:31:14 PM »
Hi all,

I have done some work to upgrade my YPPH feed. Previously it was a feed that scanned between APP,TWR and DEP on the one stream.
It now has 3 separate streams and a 4th stream will be added in the coming weeks.

Antenna is on the 4th floor of my apartment building (I'm on the 1st floor), with a LMR400 cable running down. Antenna is a MobileOne SW2-124 slimjim.
LMR400 is a very low loss coaxial cable, same thickness as RG213. The signal is split 4 ways and feeds to the 3 scanners:

Scanners from left to right are:
Uniden UBCT8 YPPH DEP 118.7Mhz
Uniden UBCD396XT YPPH TWR 120.5Mhz
Uniden 3000XLT YPPH APP 123.6Mhz

Then the audio goes from the scanners to 3 x Creative Labs Sound Blaster Play USB dongles, with audio in jacks, which are connected to a 10 port powered USB hub which is connected to the Raspberry Pi and networked to my ADSL router.

Hi,

As a Perth resident, I'm just wondering why you have gone to the split feeds and moved away from the combined feed that cycled through twr, dep and arr.  It was much easier following an aircraft as it changed freqs with combined feed as a number of other airports around Australia and the world do.

Disappointing you have gone this way.

Cheers...

The disadvantage of having multiple frequencies on one feed is simply that while the scanner is locked on one frequency, you could miss communications on another frequency. And the busier the frequencies, the more likely this would happen. So splitting up a busy group of frequencies helps to prevent missed communications.

Can't make everyone happy all the time.  :-)

We do have the capability of creating stereo feeds out of any combination of mono feeds.  But you would have to listen via stereo speakers, headphones, or a stereo Bluetooth device.

We can also mux all of those feeds onto a single mono feed...but you would hear a lot of audio all at once.

Pick your poison and we'll try to oblige.

Another alternative, of course, if you live close enough, is to get a scanner and listen to whatever you like.

Sorry guys, my internet has a fault at the moment. My service provider keeps telling me it'll be fixed soon. Hoping to have it back up next week.

Apart from the Raspberry pi locking up sometimes, every few weeks, should be solid stream now.
NBN FTTB and speed of 100% what I'm paying for :)
