KABE Antenna Setup
« on: September 08, 2015, 08:44:32 PM »
Hello,

I wanted to post pictures of the newly operational Allentown PA KABE setup. The antenna is a centerfire Special Purpose 1/4 wave Ground Plane tuned for 118-136 MHz. I have mounted it 35 feet above ground level using a Channel Master CM-9025 3-Inch Heavy-Duty Wall Mount attached to the side of the house. The mast is a home depot sourced 1-3/8 in x 10 ft. 6 in. 17-Gauge Galvanized Top Rail. Antenna mast is grounded using solid 6 AWG solid copper wire to a 8 ft ground rod and bonded to the house wiring ground rod. I am using about 15 feet of RG6 cable to feed the scanner. The scanner is a Uniden 800 MHz 300-Channel Base Mobile Scanner (BC355N). I bought a pre-configured raspberry pi from Dave to handle the audio capture. The pi also has a NooElec NESDR Mini USB RTL-SDR & ADS-B Receiver Set, RTL2832U & R820T Tuner and is uploading data to flightaware.

The receiver is currently scanning tower/ground/approach/departure frequencies. I am about 6 miles from the airport along the approach for RWY 6.
