Squawk 5555 - Flair 111
« on: October 07, 2024, 03:10:36 UTC »
Just noticed FLE111 squawked 5555 and diverted to Toronto instead of Calgary.  Does 5555 mean anything special?  It also descended to 12,000 immediately.

Update: EMS is waiting at the gate when it lands.  This is a medical emergency.

Not at least in FAA-land, no. In fact, anywhere that I am seeing it (FAA, NavCanada, ICAO), 5555 is not a a code related to any emergency. What could have happened was that they squawked emergency (7700), declared the emergency, and ATC asked them to return to their previous code, which may have been 5555.

But there definitely isn't anything emergency-wise related to 5555.
