Small Plane Crash on Long Island
« on: March 06, 2023, 13:40:56 UTC »
A small plane returning to Republic Airport (KFRG) in Farmingdale, Long Island, New York after a sightseeing trip crashed in Lindenhurst before reaching the airport.  Sadly, one person has died and two were injured.  There were reports of smoke in the cockpit before the crash.  The aircraft was inbound to KFRG from the south shore of Long Island and was given instructions for a straight-in approach.  All seemed normal at the time and the pilot was cleared to land on runway 32 a short time later.  The pilot then reported smoke in the cockpit followed a minute or two later with fire in the cockpit.  The aircraft went down roughly a mile from the end of the runway.
