A single engine Piper had just performed a Touch and Go at Farmingdale's Republic Airport when the pilot reported an engine failure and said they were going to "put it down on the highway".  The aircraft landed on the eastbound side of Southern State Parkway at around exit 33 near Lindenhurst, NY at around 11:40AM.  The right wing appeared to have struck a light pole.  Another aircraft reported that the occupants appeared to have gotten out of the Piper on their own.
