SANTA FE COUNTY, N.M. — A deadly plane crash closed down part of the West Frontage Road in Santa Fe Tuesday morning.  One person was killed.

The plane crashed into a home near West Frontage Road and La Luna after leaving the Santa Fe Regional Airport. No one was home at the time, but it had a lot of nearby neighbors shaken up.

Law enforcement and firefighters responded within 10 minutes of the crash. They were able to contain the fire just as quickly and stayed on scene hours after to put out hot spots.

The plane was a small twin engine Cessna heading to Santa Monica, California.

New Mexico State Police has not released the identity of the person who died on the plane. “Approximately 30 seconds to a minute later the plane went down, immediately making contact with the residence. That residence was empty. It was unoccupied. No one was in it,” said NMSP Public Information Officer Silver Wilson.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating this crash.

KOB 4 also reached out to the family of the homeowners to see how they are doing. They were not there when the plane crashed into their home.
