(Had to leave most of the other audio in, but pretty busy with the landing gear "swinging")

WAPPINGER – A single-engine plane with two people onboard crashed into the fence at the eastern end of the Hudson Valley Regional Airport (KPOU) in the town of Wappinger on Saturday afternoon.  The crash occurred at approximately 1:30 p.m.

Emergency personnel responded to the scene where the plane had approached Runway 24 from the east and clipped the top of the fence separating the runway from Route 376.  The plane knocked down a large section of the fence before making a hard landing on Runway 24 with damaged landing gear.

No injuries were reported at the scene.  The runway was expected to be closed down for an extended period of time.

The plane identified as N17AV, a fixed-wing Piper built in 1983 and owned by the Westchester Flying Club, had departed from Hudson Valley Regional Airport at 1:12 p.m. and is believed to have been practicing “touch-and-go” landings and takeoffs before the wreck occurred.

The accident will be investigated by the NTSB and FAA.
