FORT PIERCE, Fla. (CBS12) — A pilot is lucky to be alive after their engine failed causing them to crash in a remote field in western Fort Pierce.

The St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office (SLCSO) said at 2:28 p.m. on Tuesday, the pilot of a small plane made an emergency landing in an open field near Minute Maid Road. The St. Lucie County Fire District (SLCFD) said at 2:49 p.m. the SLCSO Aviation Unit found the plane in the field. The pilot was found out of the plane and alert, they were the sole occupant.
The sheriff's office said the pilot was flown to paramedics for evaluation. No injuries were reported.
