JBU223 Cockpit Smoke Indication
« on: December 10, 2023, 02:30:51 PM »
On December 9, JBU223 was enroute from KJFK to KLAX  and was over eastern Ohio at FL360 when the flight crew received a smoke indication in the rear of the aircraft.  No smoke was visible but the flight crew decided to declare an emergency and divert to Columbus (KCMH).  The weather at the time of the first landing attempt was terrible (heavy precipitation over the airport).  The crew aborted the approach and came around a short time later for a safe landing on runway 28L.  Fire crews on the ground could not detect any heat signatures from the rear of the aircraft.
