A small aircraft bound for Turkey crash-landed near the Iqaluit airport over the weekend.
The incident occurred Sunday at around 9 p.m., the Transportation Safety Board of Canada told Nunatsiaq News.
The pilot was the only individual aboard the Cessna 172. He survived, but the plane sustained significant damage.
It is too early to say what the causes and contributing factors to the crash may be, said Liam MacDonald, a spokesperson for the Transportation Safety Board.
He said the board is gathering information and assessing the incident.
Bound for Turkey, the aircraft was scheduled to make a stop in Iqaluit, MacDonald said.
