The crash was reported at 7:44 p.m. and occurred between the Nashville West Shopping Center near Costco and the interstate.
Police said the FAA and NTSB would be leading the investigation into the cause of the crash. FAA investigators have now arrived at the scene. NTSB investigators will arrive later on Tuesday.

Tune Airport (KJWN), Nashville, Tennessee. A short time later the pilot radioed that he was unable to make it and then crashed just off Interstate 40 behind the Costco shopping center, about 3 miles south of the airport.
The five occupants perished and the aircraft was destroyed by a post impact fire.
