Then I believe I hear in a double transmission (two talking at the same time), a mayday, but nothing after.
The controller then cleared one for take off, asking if he was going toward Newberg (his tone seemed to change)

NEWPORT, Ore. — A small plane crashed into a home in Newberg on Tuesday night, killing two people and injuring another inside the plane, according to Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue.
TVF&R spokesperson Jacob Fuhrer said people began calling 911 at around 7 p.m. to report a plane spiraling toward the ground.
The plane crashed into the home off North Cedar Street.
No one on the ground was injured.
