Aviation Audio Clips / Plane Landing Gear Mishap Closes Santa Barbara Airport Runway

A small plane’s landing-gear mishap caused a shutdown of the main runway at the Santa Barbara Airport on Wednesday.

The incident involving a single-engine Beech C24R occurred at about 9:40 a.m.

The plane’s left landing gear didn’t deploy correctly as the aircraft touched down from the west on Runway 7, according to airport spokeswoman Angi Daus.

“There were no injuries or major impacts, but it took about one-and-a-half hours to get the gear equipment retracted so that the aircraft could be towed off the runway,” Daus said.  During that time, the runway was out of service.

“The timing was fortunate because it didn’t impact any commercial flights directly, but it did cause slight delays in a couple departures,” Daus told Noozhawk.

The plane is registered to Above All Aviation, a flight school at the airport, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

(Like most of the SE the past day, some horrible weather.  Found SWA coming out of MSY, then lose them on Houston Center for the Gulf of Mexico(so never heard the emergency call), then a descriiption of the injuries as they diverted to TPA.  Weather even looks like it knocked out most of the TPA LiveATC feeders last night too)

Two people were injured when a Southwest Airlines flight encountered severe turbulence on Wednesday morning and had to make an emergency landing in Tampa, Florida, according to a spokesperson for Tampa International Airport.

Southwest Flight 4273 was traveling from New Orleans to Orlando when the captain declared an emergency after experiencing turbulence aboard the Boeing 737 jet, the airline said in a statement.  “The Captain declared an emergency, a requirement to deviate from a filed flight plan, and also requested that paramedics be available when the aircraft arrived to assess any potential injury,” the statement said.

A passenger and a flight attendant were transported to a Tampa area medical facility, the airline added.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the incident, a spokesperson told CNN.

According to CNN Weather, storms that brought severe weather from the Ohio Valley to the Deep South on Tuesday were draped over the Gulf of Mexico this morning, causing strong thunderstorms in the area.

(any landing you walk away from is a good on, especially when it's two of you)

A small plane was forced to make an emergency landing at Gold Coast Airport on Tuesday night, with early reports saying it suffered landing gear failure.

The plane was owned by Air Gold Coast — a reputable student flying school — but it was being flown by two experienced pilots at the time.  Sunrise reporter Tamra Bow explained the incident on Wednesday, as dramatic footage showing the plane sparking on the runway was aired.

“This was a plane that was owned by Air Gold Coast. A reputable aviation service that offers schooling to pilots. It’s been in operation for more than 56 years,” Bow said.  “Last night, it got into a lot of trouble. We understand two very experienced pilots, no students were on board the light plane, had been circling in the air for a number of hours dumping fuel.”

Queensland emergency services were on standby, fearing the absolute worse.

A spokesperson for emergency services said they were concerned about aircraft fuel during the incident.

“There is always a concern with these events that there is aircraft fuel that is obviously flammable,” the spokesman said.  “There were reports the pilots have elected to perform a dark landing whereby all the electrics in that aircraft are switched off just to mitigate the risk of obviously any flammable fuels being ignited.”

Bow explained the pilots walked away unharmed, making a lucky escape.

“Those pilots, incredibly accomplished pilots, both walked away without a single scratch,” she said.

“(They were) assessed by paramedics.

“However, they didn’t even need to be transported to hospital.”

The cause of the incident will now be investigated.

Aviation Audio Clips / Sault College training plane crashes two taken to hospital

A Sault College training plane made a hard landing on a runway at the Sault Ste. Marie Airport at around 4 p.m. today, resulting in a response by emergency crews and the closing of a runway.

Paramedics and fire crews were called, according to a reader who contacted SooToday and provided a photo.

Two people were transported to hospital, confirmed David Orazietti, the president of Sault College.  The plane was identified as C-GERR, a single-engine Zlin. Two new Zlin aircraft, made in the Czech Republic, were purchased last year by the college.

"A student and instructor were conducting routine training exercises and made what appeared to be a hard landing on the runway," Orazietti told SooToday tonight in a phone interview.

"Most importantly, the student and instructor are safe. As part of required protocol, the college has contacted the Transportation Safety Board. They may choose to investigate depending on how they perceive the incident.

"Safety is our top priority in this program. We're certainly relieved both the student and instructor are both safe.

"We'll be fully investigating the circumstances to ensure that all of our safety and flight procedures are followed to determine what transpired in the event.

"[Accidents like this] are extremely rare. We're averaging around 65,000 takeoffs and landings per year."

Aviation Audio Clips / Fedex A306 at Boise on Mar 28th radio problems

This was a bit strange

A Fedex Federal Express Airbus A300-600, registration N690FE performing flight FX-624 from Boise,ID to Memphis,TN (USA), was climbing out of Boise and was handed off to Salt Lake Center, when the crew returned onto the frequency of Boise reporting they were unable to contact Salt Lake Center. Communication in both directions between aircraft and Boise were loud and clear, the crew however suspected they had a problem with the radios and decided to return to Boise. The aircraft landed safely back in Boise about 25 minutes after departure.

The aircraft was able to depart again about 2.5 hours after first departure and reached Memphis with a delay of about 2:10 hours.

(no maintenance frequency here)

An American Airlines plane made contact with another aircraft while departing from the Philadelphia International Airport on Monday morning.

A spokesperson with the airline said that during pushback when the aircraft was leaving the gate, the wing tip made contact with a parked aircraft.

The American Airlines plane, which was headed to Charlotte, had crew and customers deplane and both the aircrafts were taken out of service to be inspected by maintenance.

There were no injuries reported to customers or crew, officials said.  The airline said it was working to get the people who were flying on that plane to their destination.

The original flight 847 was set for 10:31 a.m. The flight was rescheduled to 2:35 p.m., according to the American Airlines site.

At this time there is no word from officials on what caused the plane to hit the parked aircraft.
