(This was heartbreaking.  Did finally get him northbound from DAB, and was already reporting radio issues, he made the transition to JAX Center, and said the same thing, that was the last hearing him.  Must have had other electrical issues as well, ADSB went out south of JAX, but he seemed fine with VFR'ing to KTTA.  Thoughts and prayers with all the friends and family, including the aviation community there as they broadcast what was happening, and then finding the site.  RIP)

Story by Hollie Silverman
A person is in custody and law enforcement are investigating after a threat from a disruptive passenger led to an emergency diversion at the St. Pete–Clearwater International Airport (PIE) in Florida on Sunday.

Allegiant Air Flight 1023, bound for Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport in Virginia, made an emergency return to PIE after "a passenger caused a disruption," Andrew Porrello, a spokesperson for Allegiant Air, told Newsweek in an email on Sunday.  The passenger was taken into custody by law enforcement, according to Porrello, but further information on the charges the suspect may face were not provided.

Deputies with the Pinellas County Sheriff's office responded and "are investigating a threat made on an Allegiant flight," Sergeant Amanda Sinni told Newsweek in an email on Sunday. "The airport has remained open and there are no passengers in danger."

Newsweek has requested more information on the nature of the threat from officials via email Sunday. Shortly after takeoff at PIE, crew members on Allegiant Flight 1023 reported a disturbance involving a passenger.

"Allegiant does not tolerate disruptive behavior of any kind. The aircraft returned to the airport where it landed safely," Porrello told Newsweek. "Law enforcement met the aircraft and took the passenger into custody."

Aviation Audio Clips / KCVG Tower/Approach Evacuated
« Last post by RonR on July 05, 2025, 23:40:47 UTC »
Earlier today, the Tower and Tracon at KCVG had to be evacuated because of a "fire alarm" shortly before 4PM EDT.  Indianapolis Center had to take over for the Cincinatti Tracon and all flights into and out of KCVG had to use Uncontrolled Airport procedures and communicated on Unicom/CTAF 122.95.  Numerous inbound flights were placed in holding patterns.  The Tracon came back in service about an hour and a half later but the Tower, for whatever reason, remained closed for about another two hours.  The tower reopened just before 730PM EDT, about three and a half hours after the initial evacuation.  The attached audio is a mix of tower, ground and Indianapolis Center.

KDCA Friday 7/4/25 ~21:15Z (5:15pm local), flyover from North to South of WH / National Mall by flight of 4 x F22's, followed by 2 B2's, each accompanied by a pair of F35's.

JIA5501 couldn't catch a break - just missed the cut before departures were stopped, no 1 for takeoff, then had to cancel takeoff due to someone up in the back...

Enjoy - Happy 4th everyone!

NTSB prelim report on this incident - originally DRAGO61 Time on Target (TOT) 1521 EDT with departure stop around 1517 EDT.  TOT was moved up to 1515 EDT communicated by Potomac to Tower at 1512:45 as "stop all departures hard time is now seventeen" confirmed as "hard time seventeen we will stop all departures." but seems to have been misunderstood as "hard stop is seventeen" for departures

(audio is only outside SJU, but you'll get the picture)

Story by Zach Wichter, USA TODAY An American Airlines passenger snooping on one of their seat neighbors forced the flight to return to San Juan after reporting a potential security concern based on an overseen text message.

Local news outlet Primera Hora reported that one passenger saw another receive a text message saying RIP (rest in peace) and interpreted it as a threat to the flight, according to Puerto Rico's Office of Explosives and Public Safety.  American Airlines flight 1847 was on its scheduled service between San Juan and Dallas, and returned to Puerto Rico shortly after takeoff.  "The flight landed safely at SJU, and law enforcement inspected and cleared the aircraft to re-depart," the statement said. "Safety and security are our top priorities and we apologize to our customers for the inconvenience."

In general, it's a good idea for travelers to speak out if they have security concerns.

(thoughts and prayers with the family, RIP.)
(and kudos to KBNA ATC's, despite the sad outcome, what an effort to help.  folks may not realize how quickly you can go from flight instructor, to search and rescue coordinator. )

Multiple agencies are responding to a plane crash in Sumner County, Emergency Medical Services Public Information Officer Jackson Boyd confirmed to The Tennessean.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, an ERCO Ercoupe crashed in a Gallatin field around 1 p.m. on July 2.

Preliminary reports indicate the crash happened at Collier Lane and Highway 25, which has a Gallatin address but is considered in the Cottontown area.

One person has died, officials say.

"Only the pilot was on board," A Federal Aviation Administration spokesperson said.

"The plane departed from Hopkinsville-Christian County Airport in Kentucky and was headed to Cleveland Regional Jetport in Tennessee. The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board will investigate. The NTSB will lead the investigation and provide any updates," the spokesperson said.

Sumner County Sheriff Eric Craddock said first responders are asking the public to "avoid the area to allow emergency responders and investigators to safely complete their work."

Craddock confirmed the department's response in a text message.  "The Sumner County Sheriff’s Office has responded to the scene of a fatal plane crash that occurred earlier today in the Cottontown, Tennessee area. Our deputies and emergency personnel were quickly on site to secure the area and assist in the initial response," Craddock said.

"At this time, we are actively working alongside the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board, who will likely assume the lead role in the investigation moving forward. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families affected by this tragic incident."

(the very end of the recording are the best words, he's on shore and ok)

The following is a press release from the Bonneville County Sheriff's Office:

SWAN VALLEY, Idaho (KIFI) — Just after 11 am this morning, Bonneville County Sheriff’s Deputies and Star Valley Rescue were dispatched to the Palisades Reservoir near the Alpine Airport to a report of an airplane that went down in the water. A boater was able to get to the plane and rescue the pilot, who was the only one on board. The pilot was transported to the Star Valley Emergency Center but was not injured in the crash.
The pilot told Deputies he was attempting to land at the airport and undershot the runway and could not maintain enough air speed before hitting the water. Deputies are working with the FAA and NTSB on the investigation, and removal of the plane will take place sometime in the next day or so. Deputies are asking boaters to stay clear of the plane and immediate area around it until it can be safely removed.
