A sighting said to be a man in a jetpack flying some 5,000 feet in the sky 15 miles away from Los Angeles International Airport occurred Wednesday.

There were a number of similar sightings in 2020 that sparked rumors about the mysterious man, dubbed "jetpack man," and prompted an FBI investigation into the phenomenon.

A Boeing 747 pilot reported seeing an object that might have resembled a jet pack 15 miles east of LAX at 5,000 feet altitude,” said a Federal Aviation Administration spokesperson in a statement. “Out of an abundance of caution, air traffic controllers alerted other pilots in the vicinity.”

A conversation between a pilot and air traffic personnel about the sighting was recorded.

"Skywest 3626, use caution. The jet man is back. Let me know if you see him," Air traffic control told the pilot. "Skywest 3626, did you see the UFO?"

"We were looking, but we did not see Iron Man," the pilot replied.A jetpack man was previously spotted at a training area near Palos Verdes at about 3,000 feet. Weeks later, he was spotted again near the Los Angeles International Airport, flying at roughly 6,000 feet.

The sightings are unlikely to be a man with a jetpack thousands of feet in the air, according to an FBI report.

Listener Forum / Looking for 2018 Archive KOSH FISK Arrival
« Last post by WebRuss on July 27, 2021, 11:08:06 AM »
Hello All

Somehow I accidentally deleted my download of the KOSH FISK arrival and RWY36 audio feed from July 23rd of 2018.  It seems that the archive here on the site does not go back that far.  Does anyone happen to have a copy of it?  Is there a place to see further back archives?

Thanks in advance

Regards
Russ

A 19-year-old student has announced her gap year project: aiming to become the youngest woman to fly solo around the world.

Zara Rutherford, who has British and Belgian nationality, will set off from her home city of Brussels next month for the circumnavigation, which is set to take her up to three months.

The teenager, who studied at St Swithun’s school in Winchester, Hampshire, is following in the footsteps of her parents, who are both pilots.

Announcing the record bid at Popham airfield near Winchester, she told the PA news agency: “The greatest challenge will be the remote places like northern Russia or Greenland – there aren’t many people who live there so if anything were to go wrong I would be in a bit of an awkward situation. I’ve got a bit of nerves and excitement, sometimes both.

“My entire family are pilots so I have been flying my entire life and I started formal training when I was 14 and I got my licence last year. My parents are completely on board. My mum took some convincing but she got there. My dad is very supportive and is helping with the logistics.”

Rutherford will be flying a Shark ultralight, the world’s fastest light sport aircraft, for the self-funded record attempt.

The spare seat has been removed to accommodate an extra fuel tank and to avoid any questions about another person flying with her.

The current female record holder is the American Shaesta Waiz, who was 30 at the time of her circumnavigation in 2017, while the youngest male record holder was 18 years old.Rutherford, who intends to study computer science or electrical engineering and whose ambition is to become an astronaut, said: “At first, I was planning to fly around the world as an adventure during my gap year, not realising I would become the youngest woman to do so if I achieved it.

“It was only when I started researching more that I noticed I could be the first Belgian and the youngest woman to solo circumnavigate the globe. I’m hoping to get more girls interested in aviation.”The route will take her across the Atlantic, over Greenland, Canada and South America, up to Alaska, then crossing to Russia and Indonesia before returning to Europe.

She said: “The route has been chosen to fulfil Guinness World Records’ requirements to be an ‘around the world flight’. The route currently takes in 52 countries and crosses the equator twice.

“I am incredibly excited by this route and can’t wait. There will be many challenges on the way but experiencing all these cultures, and their food, will be amazing and worth it. I am most looking forward to South America and Greenland.”

Rutherford intends to start her attempt on 11 August.

Aviation Accidents/Incidents / Pilot injured in small plane crash in Murfreesboro

MURFREESBORO, TN (WSMV) - The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating a small plane crash near Providence Christian Academy in Murfreesboro on Monday morning.

"And I saw the car is heading towards it in the opposite direction and slam on their brakes. At that point the right wing dipped slightly, then the left wing depth slightly, and then the wheels crashed into contact with and made contact with the school zone sign," eyewitness Pam Bohall said. "At that point the plane stopped and had a controlled descent up until that point and then it landed straight down onto the ground and spun 90 degrees perpendicular to the road and the wheels broke and the tail crashed. What he might have not known is where the presence of that school zone sign was. It was unavoidable."

Murfreesboro Police said the pilot, who has not been identified, was taken to the hospital for treatment of his injuries. The pilot was alert and talking before taken to the hospital.

"The speed of the plane and altitude of the plane were factors in that I think because it was low enough and slow enough as it was descending that you didn't have the velocity involved," Bohall said.

The two-seat single engine Cessna crashed just before 9 a.m. After the crash, Bohall said she then instinctively helped to alert oncoming drivers.Dejarnette Lane near the Murfreesboro Municipal Airport reopened after authorities were able to remove the plane from the road just after 10:30 a.m.

If you listen to the scanner feed for KONT, please switch over to the second feed with "#1" at the end of the title.  This is a duplicate scanner feeding a newly installed Raspberry Pi device.  The original scanner is feeding through my desktop and I will be taking it down soon.  Additionally, you now have the option of listening to individual channels being fed from four SDR dongles.  I'll post some feed setup pictures once I'm done dressing cables and making it look pretty!  Big thanks to Dave, the site administrator for providing the equipment as part of his feed improvement program.  Feedback and suggestions always welcome.
