Title: KORD 10C/10L Operations
Post by: Marty Becker on March 12, 2015, 08:58:57 AM
When KORD is operating on the 9s & 10s, the 10C arrivals have to taxi back westbound on Papa taxiway to cross 10L at CC taxiway.  Why do they go back westbound to CC instead of crossing at F, EE or GG?

I love that ORD has an area called the "penalty box" and one called the "scenic hold pad."

It's definitely a longer taxi to cross at CC, but it avoids delaying departing aircraft on 10L. It also significantly reduces runway incursion risk to cross arrivals at CC instead of downfield.

ORD does the same thing when landing west on 28C. Aircraft back taxi to cross 28R at FF. Not as bad since that involves taxiing towards the terminals instead of away.

Interesting, thanks. I guess the 10L departures are from DD. I'll have to listen to the other KORD Tower feed to hear how they work it if they are still on the 10s on Friday.
