Title: First Solo Jitters!!!
Post by: kc8tgq on September 30, 2010, 10:56:56 AM
As of yesterday I now have 10.4 hours and was told that I should have my family at the airport on Monday to witness my first solo flight. Everyone talks about how nervous they were which is making me wonder if something is wrong with me. Ovcourse I want it to go well, but for some reason i'm not a bit nervous. Maybe the excitement is overpowering those emotions. Honestly, I feel like I was ready to solo about 2 lessons ago. I just dont want to be "the guy" that freezes up unexpectedly after takeoff having a warm, wet, feeling running down my leg. I'm not sure I can afford to have the seats shampoo'd. Anyway, wish me luck and stay away from West Virginia next week.

Good Luck Man! You are going to be sitting exactly where I would like to sit someday!

Getting my P L is one of the items on my bucket list!

Let us know how it turns out!   8-)

My first solo experience was wonderful. I wouldn't call what I had as jitters, more anticipation.  We flew from DSM to IKV.  My instructor told me we would do 3 landings and if all was good, I would solo.  No big deal I thought.  I set the first one down and hear the magic words "Turn off at the next taxiway".

We go to the FBO, he signs my logbook and gives me my instructions: "Do 3-5 touch and goes.  Just be back before dark.  Ask on the radio if you need help."  I am glad that there wasn't a CVR in the plane because I was having way too much fun!  If I knew how to work the XM radio, I would have been rocking!

I didn't get the back cut off my shirt, but my instructor made me trade him seats for the ride back to DSM and fly from the right side, which in the aircraft I soloed in has no electric trim switch.

My advice:  Enjoy the day, take good pics afterward, and ultimately have fun!

First Solo: December 17, 2008 - ASEL: October 9, 2009 - Instrument Rating: In Progress
Yes, I know there is a large gap between the dates, but that is the joy of flight instruction in Iowa.

There's no reason to be nervous, which is probably why you aren't :). If you're well trained and well prepared, another circuit is just another circuit.

Hope you have a great time! The aircraft will feel like a rocket with half the load!

Hoping all went well. Just read this and started cracking up at your humor. Afford to shampoo the seats and stay away from West Virginia lol
