Title: ELVIS11 and ELVIS12 (V-22 Osprey) in DC past days
Post by: bdcheung on July 29, 2011, 02:10:45 PM
On July 27 around 6:20pm local time, two V-22 Ospreys, callsigns ELVIS11 and ELVIS12, flew north on the Potomac Radar, passing KDCA, looping around the Pentagon, then leaving the area heading up Maryland Route 210.

On July 29, around 7:00am local time, they did the same thing.

Anyone know what they were doing in the area (aside from flying around)?  I'll look to see if the archives caught them, as they were on frequency with DCAFW and DCA_TWR.

No idea, but the third v-22  ELVIS 13 was orbiting my class D on the 27th. He wasn't that clear for his intentions except that he was waiting for his playmates 11 and 12 to join back up with him but he eventually departed north-westbound, most likely to join the route you said.

How could they fly up MD210 from DCA/Pentagon?

They flew up the river, swung by the Pentagon, then did a 180 and flew back down (south) the river to join MD210 southbound.

I've got a geotagged photo of ELVIS11 that I'll post once i get it uploaded.

Also, what's the story behind the ELVIS callsign?
