ATCS Trainee Applicant Questions
« on: February 23, 2014, 03:40:23 AM »
Hi. I just applied this month for the ATCS Trainee position the FAA was accepting applications for. I have some questions that maybe some of you can answer.

1. What score do you need to pass the bio assessment? There were 60 multiple choice questions. Most of it seemed like common sense.

2. What is the best way to study for the AT-SAT Test? Is there a prep book for it or practice tests? What does the test involve? Types of questions? Is it hard to score an 85% or higher on it?

3. How long does it take usually before you know if you passed the bio assessment? The listing just closed this past Friday.

4. What are the odds that ill get offered an academy training spot assuming that I pass both the bio and AT-SAT? Keep in mind I have no previous atc training. I'm qualifying with a combo of college education and work experience.  I am a us citizen.

5. Is the training at the academy 3 months? If you graduate, are you guaranteed to be offered a job at a facility? Is it very unlikely that they'll place you in a city you prefer to be in?

Looking forward to getting far in the process. Anyone who can help answer these questions is much appreciated.

The Bio Q was something they just introduced so no one has any idea how it will be used.

There is a book called ATC Career Prep, AKA The Green Book. It had a CD that included practice ATSAT questions. The ATSAT used to contain math (e.g. Aircraft 1 is going 250, how long will it take to travel 80?), analogy questions, some memory exercises and a really basic simulation.  You are not allowed to use paper, pens, calculators, etc... on the test.

However, the ATSAT is getting revised so take the above with caution.

Odds? No one knows.

Since everyone has to go through basics now, tower will be 3 months and en route 4. If you pass, you'll be sent somewhere but don't count on it being your first choice.

Good luck.
