I live in the west bay about 1 1/2 miles from the San carlos airport. I was just wondering where the transmitters were and if anyone knows where i could get an antenna that will get me some good reception. Right now i use an electrical wire i found on my dads tool box. But it does work.

if you get an antenna high enough out doors, id bet you could pick up something, whether zoa, norcal, or terminal. when i finally decided to put an antenna out doors i picked up various zoa freqs and some norcal.

t looks like your about 9 miles from SFO and about 11 miles from OAK, a decent outside antenna
up as high as you can for the VHF aviation band should pull these in.

Ok great i will get you guys a picture of what i have tommorow i have about 15ft i would guess of height. Is there a type of wire that you would reccomend for the best reception i now just use CAT 3. UTP cable that is normally used for electricity. I just stripped down the four wires inside the plastic cover and put the end of one of my radio antennas at the end of a piece of wood about 10 feet long. Is there a problem with this. Cause i dont want to have to buy a whole brand new hi tech one.

Ok here. This is what i have so far. This is at night so the arent the best pics.

I live about seven miles from SFO in Daly City and without an outdoor antenna results are poor. With an outdoor antenna results are good.
I suggest the Radio Shack #20-176. You MUST put it up outdoors and as high as you can. Oh, in our area RF QRM is a fact of life, plan on installing filters in front of the antenna. Simple traps from Radio Shack should work as they do for me. Total cost of antenna, filters and wire about $75.00

Great thanks could you send me a picture of your setup cause all i have now is thatelectrical wire.
