ZNY/ZDC Up
« on: May 16, 2005, 04:49:35 PM »
Im sure some of you have seen the feed is up, I ran this feed back in the fall 04'. It started in September, then I couldnt keep it up. So I decided to take it down, it's now up and should be a full- time feed now. There are a few changes now, I since have been able to pick up the PTW 92 and DQO 18. I will be working on my coax to improve the reception on the MXE 25 and DQO 18 sectors. If anyone wants to know the flows for these sectors just let me know and I'll post what each sector does.

I know one person will be thankful for this feed, Mike aka NYARTCCFAN. Isn't that right Mike  :D

Enjoy,
      Ed

Glad to see it up Ed.  I'm glad I was able to help you get it all setup.  It's hard since many people have different sound cards and comp. setups in general...well after many hours of hard work we both got it up!  :D

Let me know if ya need anything,

I was wondering if you have a map of the ZNY sectors or know of a link to one. I've been looking all over the web for one with no luck. Thanks.

Ok, I'll get one up then. FYI, I locked MXE 25/ DQO 18. I found that interference to be to much, sometime today I'm gonna re crimp my coax and those sectors should be better.

This is a great feed, excellent reception on 134.60/132.10/124.625. Personally I think it would be better if you left MXE25/DQO18 locked out and only monitored 132.60/132.10/124.625. The traffic volume is quite high and by adding any more it just makes it impossible to follow the flow. They way you have it now, with just those 3 works out nice. Just my 2 cents.

Thanks for the feed !

Well 135.45 is important because 132.1/ 134.6 deal with this sector alot for the BWI/IAD/DCA Arrivals, you'll hear 34.6 handing off to them alot. 132.52 isn't so important to ZNY's flow. Yet it's all the Dylin2 arrivals into EWR and sometimes Korry3 arrivals into LGA. However I will keep them locked as requested until I can get them to the same strenght as the other 3 sectors.

124.62 is good listening after 9pm EST. They group 134.8, 124.9, 133.5 along with 124.62. So he'll run any thing that's low altitude anywhere near the west along ZOB's border. And you'll hear Milton3 Arrivals into LGA, Willamsport1 Arrivals into EWR, Spuds/ Slatt 1 Arrivals into PHL (Always controls them). Among those flows a slew of late night arrivals/departures at Willamsport, State College, University Park, Allentown, Wilkes Barre etc...

134.6 is anything heading for J75, J230 for the south or west. Anything for the west or south out of the Kennedy 9 Dep, Brezy Point climb, heading to RBV deals with the ARD55 sector. Liberty Departure hands traffic off as they are climbing to 17000. Late at night this can be grouped with the JFK56 running CAMRN4 arrivals into kennedy, don't be surprised if you hear crossing restrictions, but not the pilot as they are on 125.325.

132.1 is all EWR departures for J6, J64, headin west to Eliot, Parke. Also handles southwest bound flows of IAD, DCA, BWI traffic. Anytime you hear European Heavies, they are on this freq descending on the Delro 1 into IAD. (i.e. AFR024, VIR021, BAW293/ 217, DLH414). After hours this is normally grouped with 134.6, but most of the time actually never used after hours.

EDIT: One thing I shall add, is that 132.1 is a birde freq in my scanner. Of course it has to be that one out of like 400 freqs that I can get. So you will hear a light static on that frequency. That will have to be until I get a base scanner.

HAHA, the german lady is working ARD55. You may hear her once in a while, she is training in Area B. Sometimes you will hear a older man on the frequency, like if someone has a question about routing. You should hear her, she can get annoying.... "Rogah". "Comair two ah twenty one, climb and ah maintain ah Flight Level two two zero"

Thanks for the info. I'm trying to put together a detailed database for as many sectors as I can.

This is what I have so far for 132.10/134.60/124.625

132.100 New York

EWR/LGA departures via ELIOT/PARKE climbing 11000-16500 for 17000 or at 17000
- via ELIOT.J80/PARKE.J6, direct LARRI/LRP, to FL300+, to 133.475 New York

- HOUTN at FL200, (or 30N LRP at FL200), direct LRP/HOUTN, to 133.675 New York

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
134.600 New York

JFK departures via RBV climbing 15000-16000 for 17000 or at 17000
- via RBV.J230, to FL280, to 134.325 New York

LGA/EWR departures via LANNA/BIGGY climbing 11000-16500 for 17000 or at 17000
- to FL300+, to 134.325 New York

BWI arrivals via J75.MXE at FL280
- to FL190, (or 10 north of MXE at FL190), to 135.450 New York

DCA arrivals via J75.MXE
- via CMK decending FL300-FL290 for FL280, direct MXE
- via BIGGY climbing 16000 for 17000, to FL220, direct COPES/MXE = LGA
- to 135.450 New York

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
124.625 New York

PHL departures via PTW climbing 11500-12500 for 13000 or at 13000
- to 17000, to 132.875 New York
- to 16000, to 133.500 New York = ITH

PHL turboprop departures via PTW
- at 10000 = UNV

PHL arrivals via LVZ.SLATT1 descending 14000 for 12000
- SPUDS at 11000, to 128.400 Philadelphia Approach

AVP departures via LVZ.V106.SEG.PSB at 8000
to ?, to 133.500 New York = ATL

ABE departures via ETX at 8000
- to 17000, to 133.675 New York

ABE turboprop departures via ETX.V30.PSB at ?
- to ?, to 134.800 New York = PIT

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
To go along with the above I also have a detailed route database. As an example this is what I have for EWR departures via ELIOT, to ...

MDW: ELIOT.DIMMO.J60.GSH.GSH3.MDW FL300+
DEN: ELIOT.DIMMO.J60.IOW.J10.LBF.SAYGE5.DEN FL300+ COA
LAS: ELIOT.DIMMO.J60.BCE.GRNPA1.LAS FL300+
IND: ELIOT.KIPPI.J80.EMPTY.DQN.CLANG5.IND FL260 BTA
PIT: ELIOT.KIPPI.J80.VINSE.NESTO2.PIT FL260 BTA
CMH: ELIOT.KIPPI.J80.AIR.AIR263.BREMN.CMH FL300 COA
MCI: ELIOT.KIPPI.J80.CAP.BQS2.MCI FL300+ BTA
XNA: ELIOT.KIPPI.J80.AIR.J110.STL.J8.SGF.XNA FL300+ BTA
OKC: ELIOT.KIPPI.J80.AIR.J110.STL.J8.SGF.J98.TUL.TRUMP5.OKC FL300 BTA
PHX: ELIOT.KIPPI.J80.AIR.SHB.COWES.ICT.LVS.ZUN.BUNTR1.PHX FL300+ BTA
LAX: ELIOT.KIPPI.J80.AIR.CAP.ALS.PGS.MITTS2.LAX FL300+ COA

etc. etc. etc.

It's a work in progress and hardly complete. I don't know if anyone else is interested in such detail, but it would be handy to have a reference like the above for as many sectors as possible.

All right Jetscan1 you are holding out on us !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You ar an air traffic controller righ ? Great work on the routings and frequencies(transmitter locations). You are a blessing to this board man. One question and I will leave you alone  is that before ABE arrivals get handed off to NY Center(134.8) do you know what CLE Center frequency they are on ? I have been thinking is it 119.725 or 126.725.

Not a controller, just a pilot with a keen interest in ATC and flight planning. If I wasn't flying (airline) I would probably doing something in ATC.

From the high sectors, ABE arrivals from ORD/DTW for example go from Cleveland on 119.725 to New York 132.875. I'm not that familiar with 132.875 but I presume after that they go to New York on 134.800 ? I've noticed ABE arrivals from CLE and ATL on New York 124.625 before handoff to approach on 124.450. I'm not familiar with the low Cleveland frequencies in that area (ie: PIT-ABE), so can't help you there.

Yea, your pretty much right. Any of the ABE arrivals from ORD/DTW go to 132.875, sometimes 128.575. Then 124.625 which is most of the time combined with 134.8/ 124.9

Thanks for the info. What about PHL departures on the low altitude route via PTW.PTW320.V499 (to ELM,ITH,BGM,etc.) on 124.625, sometimes they get the handoff to 133.500 and other times 128.500. Are 133.500/128.500 merged sectors or is there a vertical split in there as well somewhere ?

i was wondering also why 128.5 was active(usual a standby freq for NYCARTCC).Ed correct me if I am wrong here but I do believe from 124.625 they get handed off to 134.45/133.35. Traffic going into CLE CENTER out west they get handed off to 132.875 after 124.625 then to 119.725/133.075 depending on cruise altitude. I have at times heard EWR and LGA traff normally on 133.5 be also on 124.625(during slow times) and on 128.5

128.5 and 133.175 are both new sectors. I will have to get an update for my sector map. So all I know is that 133.175 is next to LRP26 (133.675). I have no clue where 128.5 is. Those PHL PTW departures, normally go 124.625, 133.35. I have never heard a handoff to 134.45, I assume that CFB50/ 133.35 and LHY51/ 134.45 are combined 95-98% of the time. Or just that they don't like to flow traffic northbound from 124.62 to 134.45.

NY ARTCC publishes a map/guide for pilots every two years. You can get the latest one at http://web.nbaa.org/public/ops/airspace/ZNY_LTA0401.pdf
With regards to frequencies, they'll sometimes use backup frequencies. On the map you'll notice #66 is 134.55, yet most people will know it as 128.3.
I have never noticed them publish backup frequencies, even in the now outdated SOP I have.

If you've never seen what the SOP looks like, you can see several pages of it at the NTSB web site at http://www.ntsb.gov/events/EA990/docket/Ex_3A_attE.pdf

For ZOB, I don't know any official references, but do know that the person who got the ZOB info at this site (pages 1 to 3) http://www.zobartcc.org/zob/sop/zob_chapter3.pdf  got them from the FAA.
The above is LOW, here is HIGH (pages 1 to 2)  http://www.zobartcc.org/zob/sop/zob_chapter4.pdf

Hope the above helps.

Yea, 0401 is the last cycle I have for ZNY. I have seen those Non-Radar position SOP's, pretty cool, but old. And as for those ZOB maps, I told Mike about those. Mike, none of us can help your computer illiterate soul j/k
