ZNY 128.675 in use again
« on: April 28, 2014, 10:20:56 AM »
After a long silence, ZNY is once again using 128.675 this morning out of the Douglaston RCAG.  It looks like it's in place of ZNY 118.975...not sure how long this will last, but for time being both sides of the transmission can be heard on the JFK Area #1 feed.

It looks like ZNY is having reception problems on 118.975 (there seems to be a lot of static), that's why 128.675 is in use.  One flight reported that reception on 128.675 was "much better, 100% better"...

ZNY 128.675 still in use as of 22:00 eastern time. This freq has been moved to the JFK Area #2 feed since 118.975 is on this feed and that's the freq that has been replaced by 128.675....

Radio tests were performed on ZNY 118.975 this morning and it looks like whatever problem there was with that transmitter has been solved.  ZNY has gone back to using 118.975 and 128.675 is no longer being used...

ZNY 128.675 was active again this morning (around 10:15AM EDT) but it seemed like it was only simulcasting the controller's transmissions from ZNY 128.3, at least that's what was going on when I drove past the Douglaston RCAG today...

So once again ZNY 128.67 out of the Douglaston RCAG has come to life. It is currently substituting for 125.32...ZNY has been simulcasting on 128.67 for the past several days but not using it instead of 125.32. Tonight tho all comms are on 128.67...

For those who are interested, ZNY is once again using 128.675 (backup out of Douglaston RCAG).  This time it looks like it's being used in place of ZNY 134.6...ATC and aircraft can be heard on the JFK#2 feed

Good morning everyone...

Once again ZNY has activated their backup frequency 128.675.  At the moment it appears it's being used in place of 132.1. ZBW is performing radio checks on 132.1 so they might be switching back at any time...just thought I'd put this out there...

Once again, for anyone interested, ZNY is using 128.675 again...this time they are simulcasting ZNY 133.5 controller transmissions on this frequency.  It looks like they've been doing this for several days now...

128.675 can be heard on my JFK area feeds.

Thanks for the update Ron. I've also heard 121.12 used as a backup for 133.50, and a few weeks ago they were briefly using 121.125 as a sub for 132.17.

No problem Jet...

Have you ever heard ZNY split up the ZNY 133.5 sector?  That's what seems to be going on right now.  133.5 and 128.675 are both in use in this sector...

No I've never heard them split it before (2 different controllers). I pulled up the archives between 2000Z-2059Z and it did sound they were using both frequencies in the sector, but the sector was not split (same controller on both frequencies) from what I could tell. Any chance you could isolate 128.675 on one of your radios for a bit to help figure out what's going on ?

Thanks for that. During that time 128.675 was simulcasting with 133.500 and 125.925

However I pulled up some more ZNY-JOBOC archive from yesterday and starting at 2120Z they did split off 128.675 into a separate sector. It was used in the corridor working NYC area arrivals/departures from what sounded like FL240 to up to FL300. With 133.500 (combined with 125.925) working FL310 and above.

First time I've heard that, will keep an eye on it. Any chance you could take 128.675 off your #1 radio and put it on the #3 so it's with 133.500 ? Would make it easier to cross-check, and you would hear the controller in that area when they are combined.

Sorry...only saw your reply today...when I get home n a couple of hours I'll set that up. The radios I'm using have a built in delay so I can't turn that off.

Sorry for the wait Jet...

But finally did what you asked.  133.5 and 128.675 are now on the JFK3 feed.  At the moment the controller is also simulcasting on 125.92...you want that freq on this radio too?

Thanks for taking the time to do that, appreciate it.

Yeah the 133.50 and 125.92 sectors seem to be combined a lot of the time, so it would makes sense to permanently add 125.925 to your #3 radio.

I'm going to be busy for the next week, but I'll check the archives later when I have time and see if I can catch them splitting off 128.675 into a separate sector again ?
