ZMA coverage in the MIA area.
« on: February 26, 2018, 04:35:12 PM »
First off thanks for all the great feeds covering KMIA and ZMA in that area !

Just an observation on coverage, you have a feed covering ZMA60-127.225. This sector is mostly out of range from the FLL/MIA area and aircraft reception is very poor on this radio, not much is being heard.

I was just wondering if it would make more sense to monitor ZMA41-135.600 instead on this radio ? This is the low sector adjacent to the south of the MIA terminal area not currently covered by any LiveATC feeds. AFAIK the 135.600 RCAG is the same location as 126.325 so I suspect controller reception would be very good ?

Also the ZMA26-124.700 sector almost always seems to be combined with the ZMA06-132.200 sector. Just wondering if it's possible to add 132.200 with the radio monitoring 124.700 so you would be able to hear the aircraft as well ?

I understand if the above is not possible due SDR bandwidth or interference issues, but just thought I'd throw it out there.

Thanks as usual for the great work !

JS

135.600 controller side not audible. They switch between transmitters - one is in Bimini and one is in Miami. So we might hear them from time to time.

132.2 is not possible due to SDR bandwidth.

Thanks, that was fast. Yeah too bad not getting the controller, although aircraft reception sounds good. I'll keep checking to see if they ever use the MIA RCAG site.

What about ZMA42-133.850 ? I suspect that ZMA41 and ZMA42 are usually combined and I believe 133.850 also transmits from the MIA area (or used to) ? Might get the controller on 133.85 then run it as a combo feed with 135.600 to get both sides ?

Would a donation help to get more bandwidth or are you tapped out there ?

Hi guys,  133.85 is a dead frequency. I have heard 135.6 transmitted out of Miami either by mistake or when the Bimini transmitter is down and once at the same time...the pilots had issues with that  :-D    I have at times heard 133.2 (transmitted out of Miami) combined with 135.6   The 133.2 frequency is so weak here in the Fort Lauderdale area that I can't use it.

Thanks for the info. The FAA also list 127.700 as a frequency out of Miami, have you ever heard that one used ?

Hi Guys, I took a ride down to the Miami ZMA RCAG site today to see if there was anything new and hit up Miami Airport as well. The ARINC frequency 130.700 is not the best, it's a little on the weak side however it's readable. Every now and then I can hear it were I'm located in the Fort Lauderdale area. Just to recap...127.7 and 133.85 are dead frequencies. 133.200 is loud and clear their with the controller side of the 135.600 ZMA41  Junar sector. So if the feeder is willing and it can be done, please add 133.200 to the feed and you'll have the controller side as well.

Later Guys & Gals

As of August 11, 2018 the Miami Center frequency 133.850 is being transmitted out of the Miami RCAG. It's currently combined with 126.325, 135.600 and 133.200  8-)
