New York Center (Sector 86) now covered
« on: November 20, 2011, 09:41:56 PM »
When I made the recent round of changes to the JFK feed, I added some New York Center frequencies to the JFK Company Feed (the only free receiver).  This is Sector 86 (134.375 and 121.125) Atlantic Sector which transmits out of the Queens, NY area.

You can see listen to the feed here:
http://www.liveatc.net/search/?icao=zny

Note that this RCAG (Remote Communications Air/Ground) station only seems to transmit on weekends but there may be other times it is in use - it seems to be a backup site that is exercised once per week.  Sunday is usually a busy day, as it is right now.

I listened to some of the archives from Sunday (after 1700 to midnight local). The controller you hear is working Sector 56 (normally 125.32), then later at night merged with low Sector 68 (normally 118.97). Sector 56 is the sector directly overhead JFK (FL180 and above) and 68 (DIXIE, FL240 and below) is the adjacent sector to the south (JFK arrivals on the CAMRN4). I never heard anyone working the Atlantic Sector 86 (normally 133.50) ? Maybe they switch it up on different days ? Great reception of the controller and aircraft, it would make a great stand alone feed. I'll donate the radio if you can accomodate anymore at that location ?

Great info, thanks.  After listening last night I knew the feed description was wrong.  I was going by the FAA listings but those don't always tell the whole story.

I suspect this is a once per week test to make sure the equipment at that RCAG is still functioning well.

Since it is a once per week schedule it doesn't make sense to put on a separate radio - besides, can't accommodate any more radios at that location.  I suspected that reception would be very good, which is why I added those frequencies before leaving.

Sector 68 and Sector 56 are on my to-do list because those are good, busy sectors.  Sector 56 transmits from Matawan, NJ and Sector 68 transmits from Colts Neck, NJ (Colts Neck VOR site).

If anyone is near either of those locations and might be willing to host a receiver, please contact me.

Thanks,
Dave

I see on the current AFF that 134.375 is listed at Douglaston as well as 133.050 (also high), and that 121.125 is listed at Nantucket. Until you posted this thread I've never heard any of these 3 frequencies being used before. None of them are shown on the latest ZNY sector charts I have (letter to airman 08-01, July 15, 2008). Anyone know if 133.050 is ever used ? Anyone in the Nantucket area every hear anything on 121.125 ?

An interesting feed would be that Atlantic sector 86 on 133.500. The lastest AFF shows 133.500 located at North Mountain but I suspect it's actually located closer to the NYC area ever since it was used to replace the old 132.150 frequency ? Can anyone confirm this ?

I was thinking of a dedicated Center radio, even if you can't hear the controllers is okay with me. You might (?) get the controller on 133.500 from the JFK area, that and the 129.90 ARINC freq. would tie in well with your HF feed.

133.5 main is located out of Barnegat NJ, BUEC is out of Atlantic City.  121.125 is the backup freq if those go down for sector 86 and 65 and located out of JFK and ACK.
