Which Media Player Do You Use to Listen to LiveATC.Net?
« on: August 21, 2005, 02:26:59 AM »
I've been having trouble with the PHNL/PHJR feed and after listening with different programs to various feeds including my own, I was wondering which media player each of you use to listen to a feed. I get different results with each player.

Sometimes a feed will have trouble staying connected with one and not hiccup at all with another other. With some players some feeds can get wacky. I am curious to see what the everyone is using. Personally I find that iTunes works the best for me on the majority of the feeds. Any comments or additions are welcomed.
Aloha,
LorM

Just so you know, my iTunes program conks out after 90 secondfor any ATC broadcast and fails to rebuffer.  I did some troubleshooting, uninstalling and trashing old files, no differnence.  Is there a possible feed quality issue?

Doubtful.  Have you tried another program like Winamp to verify whether it is your Internet connection that's causing the trouble?

I have seen connections for many hours with no trouble.

Yes I have.  I tried to download a Winamp program for eMac, but I wasn't sure which application to select from my hard drive.  I tried a friend's computer in Peterborough who used winamp and that worked and was far more attractive than iTunes.  I also tried to open the file via Real Audio player, but that doesn't work.

Good day folks.  I downloaded a recent version of Real Audio for mac and it's working much better than iTunes.  Except that the Toronto center frequencies I'm monitoring, kept getting disconnected every minute or so and automatically reconnects.

I switched to Real Audio now instead of iTunes and it's working like a charm.  I noticed I don't lose the connection once 2 min's rolls around.  I'll keep using Real Audio  :D

I like Winamp because it comes with a bunch of different colors- j/k. No it's just basically a music player- pure and simple, no strings attached- although I think there's a video player in here somewhere.

I like Media Player sometimes, for watching the animations if I'm bored. Or speeding up or slowing down a song, just for kicks.

I've only been using LiveATC.Net for a few days... I chose "other" in the poll because mostly I've used my networked (by hacking) DirecTivos to listen to audio streams. It's sort of fun to get bored of TV and in a few clicks be listening to ATC! If I am near/on my PC I use Winamp.

I took the "all" list and grabbed just the "Status: UP" entries, made a playlist.m3u file and put it onto my box that is running JavaHMO. I used the JavaHMO interface to add that playlist as "Air Traffic Control audio".

The box running JavaHMO, in turn, makes the LiveATC (and other stuff like movie showtimes, wx maps, etc.) available to each of my 3 networked DirecTivos.

By default, DirecTivos aren't networked, but if you have a Series 2 DirecTivo that is NOT an R10 model you can add networked features so that it can do most of the same networked stuff that a standalone Tivo box can do - see http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=265929 for info on getting networking going.

I am also able to securely access my DirecTivos via the web to setup recordings, check listings, etc.

I would use Windows Media player, because it connects better. Thanks from Hobbyist.
PS LiveATC.net got a different web-site. I like it.

I use iTunes for a lot of the feeds, but the actual mp3 and video files play better on windows media player, so I will use that as well.
