Title: Which is the busiest HF channel being streamed?
Post by: dannews on July 07, 2019, 08:08:00 PM
Hey, I want to listen to more of the magical sound of the HF channels.
Sadly, the ones around New Zealand are no longer streamed, but I'd love to listen to one that gets busy. Whenever I tune in to them, there's no activity.
I usually listen late in the evening New Zealand time, so that's late morning GMT.
Any suggestions on which one/s to keep an ear on at this time?

Late morning GMT is when the westbound North Atlantic wave starts - if that's something of interest to you. Unfortunately none of the Shanwick Oceanic or Santa Maria frequencies is currently present on LiveATC. However public KiwiSDRs come to the rescue - just pick a receiver from http://sibamanna.duckdns.org/sdr_map.html , preferably in UK or Iceland and you will hear plenty of traffic entering NAT tracks on their way to Americas. An added bonus is that you can tune the radio by yourself and change receivers to follow propagation conditions.

As far as frequencies are concerned, the most commonly used at that time are: 5583, 5598, 5649, 4651, 6547, 8879 for Shanwick and 6622, 6628, 6667, 8906, 8825 for Santa Maria.
