Looking for volunteer near JFK Airport
« on: July 15, 2008, 01:11:53 PM »
The current location of my JFK feed equipment will become unavailable starting September 1, 2008.  Therefore LiveATC is looking for a new location for the equipment.

The ideal volunteer site:

1) Within 5-10 "air miles" of JFK
2) DSL or cable Internet connection
3) About 6 sq feet of free space for a computer and 8 scanners
4) An existing scanner antenna that we can tie into - or the ability to install a small scanner antenna outside or in an attic.

I would come by and do the install - the volunteer would typically not have to do anything but let the equipment run.  It does not use much bandwidth to send the streams (~128kbps upstream).

If you are able to help and/or know someone else who is, please contact me directly at dave <at> liveatc.net.  No need to follow up here really unless you have questions that might benefit the wider audience.

Thanks,
Dave

As I have discussed with Dave someone that is 5 miles or closer would be optimum (FYI)

Dave i could do it again if needed :) I switched to Verizon FIOS from Cablevision and my connection is much more stable than it was.

Must be nice to be able to get FIOS.  :-)

We have one nearby candidate location but plans are not completely firmed up yet.

Thanks for the offer - I will let you know.  It'll be good to catch up anyway when I'm down that way.

Dave
