What Airline Is This?
« on: April 20, 2009, 07:09:27 PM »
Hi all-

Watching the ITVV Airtours 757 DVD and taxiing out of Manchester there is a green L-1011 TriStar. Does anyone know what airline this may be? I've attached a screen grab. (providing it works).

Just curious, as I love the old Tristars.

Many thanks!

It's certainly foreign, but I can't make it out.  Nice pic of both the L-1011 and the B-757.

Oh, and the picture of the tug... that's what they look like in real life when you disengage the governor.  :-P

Ask and thou shall receive! I've seen this airplane before...it is Caledonian Airways L-1011-385-1-14 Tristar 100 G-BBAF in a hybrid scheme. The basic colors are of Aer Lingus. The airplane was owned by Caledonian and leased to Aer Lingus, and placed back in service before restoring the complete Caledonian scheme. See the pics below!

Here is the scheme in question circa 1998:

Here she is in full Aer Lingus colors circa 1998:

Here she is in full Caledonian colors circa 1999:

Nice catch in the video too! I am also a Tristar fan!  8-)

Some excellent deductions there Joey - Thanks very much! I spent a good 10 minutes squinting at it and all I could come up with was that the tail looked a bit like Caledonian's livery but their planes definitely weren't green! Looks like we have our own "Liveatc.net Resident Aircraft/Livery Historian"!

Many thanks for getting to the bottom of that one!!!

Glad I could help! Thanks for the complement too!  :-D

This one is truly a unique paint scheme. I love older airplanes, classic schemes, and hybrids. There are a bunch of good ones out there too!   8-)

Yeah back in 98 I flew this jet from Dublin to Newark. Of course they have ceased Ops. at ewr for a long time now.

Nice Aircraft!

Yeah, not sure what it is about the TriStars - Just always liked them! Never flown one and it's incredibly doubtful I ever will but they're still lovely to look at!

Truly a shame that the L-1011 is all but gone from U.S. skys. The only ones you can find are freight dogs, and those are being phased out too! American International and Kitty Hawk used to run them into KYIP all the time. AIA had one that was still in British Airways livery...I'll see if I can dig up a pic of that one...

I was fortunate to have been associated with Delta when the L-1011 was retired from the fleet...got the shirt to prove it!

Here is the AIA L-1011 in BAW colors I mentioned...

Lockheed L-1011-385-1-15 TriStar 200(F) N107CK (cn 193N-1182) at KSJC. You can see the Coat Of Arms bleeding through the blue cover-up paint! I have several pics of this one at KYIP, sadly, now she sits at Victorville (KVCV)...probably never to fly again.
