watching approaches.
« on: March 19, 2009, 01:31:57 AM »
okay, so i am a liveatc fan and listening to aircraft during busy times or bad weather days are all a lot of fun, hearing atc and pilots earn the pay they get is great.

i now wish to progress to watching the flights, similar to flight aware, just a lot more updated and on google maps or earth. I've heard of a program call planeplotter and have tried to use it, but before you can see what it is like you have to register. As i don't have a ads-b reciever i'd need to register to gain access to internet streams.

I've checked out FBO web and well as i am sureyou are all aware you need to select just one flight and monitor and most of the time it is not live.

So what i am really looking for is live radar/tracon coverage in google maps or earth to view while listening to streams on here.

anyone got some advice, or should i just register the planplotter program is it worth the money?

You can check out passur, for the few airports it covers.

A great site I've used a lot is http://www.openatc.com - Give it a try. If I've understood what you're looking for correctly, it does what you're asking and integrates into Google Earth.

It does however depend on someone in your area sharing their ADS-B - Luckily someone close to me does.

Give it a try!

i used to use openatc all the time, but a lot of people moved to plane plotter and i never found any coverage in the major US airports.

I want to get plane plotter going but i am concerned that i will spend the 50 euro (130AUD) and it will be crap, because they do not permit you to test the shared side of it before you pay.

is there something similar to open atc that actually has some decent coverage.
