Washington 132.1
« on: January 26, 2016, 02:05:38 PM »
Hello

I am trying to find a Freq.   Aircraft approaching Dullas from the NE seem to be told to contact 132.1
I could not find it in the Freq list, so I was wondering where it broadcast from and what sector it was for

Thanks in advance for everyone's help

References I looked up show 132.100 as a NY ARTCC frequency from Flint Hill, which I believe is in
Southeastern Pennsylvania.  May be that is what you are looking for. LiveATC doesn't cover that one yet.

As AeroBill mentions this is a New York sector. Some sources indicate the antenna is located at "Flint Hill" which is about 8nm south-southeast of the Allentown Airport (ABE) while others show it as "Allentown" which might mean right at the airport ?

It would be a good location for a ZNY LiveATC feed as 124.625 and 134.600 are also listed at this location. There's already a feed at Allentown for the aiport, I wonder how good controller reception on these ZNY frequencies is there ? Maybe a dedicated radio could be added for the 3 Center frequencies ? Any reception reports from the area appreciated.

New York 132.10, Sector 39 PARKE combines into 134.60, Sector 55 Yardley when traffic is light, so there might be times when you can hear these IAD arrivals from the NE (flying the HYPER6 STAR) on 134.60, which is covered (aircraft only) here on LiveATC.

Also, as Ron posted in another thread, there are rare times when New York uses their backup frequency 128.675 as a sub for 132.100.

You probably know this already, but after New York on 132.10/(134.60) IAD arrivals handoff to New York on 132.20/(133.17). There is good coverage of 132.20 on the "ZNY NY Center (MDT)" LiveATC feed and 133.17 (used when busy) on the "ZNY NY Center (JOLIET)" LiveATC feed. (Although just pulling up a few archives I have not heard 133.17 in use lately). After this they handoff to Potomac Approach.

Speaking of the FlintHill site I noticed that another of it's frequencies is being broadcast
on LiveATC, but not listed. If you check the ZNY North Mountain feed, you will hear both
ground and aircraft on 124.625. Perhaps this is a simu-cast feed tied-in with one of the other
North Mountain frequencies, or the feed provided hasn't listed it.

I'm not associated with these feeds but as far as I can tell 124.62 is on the North Mountain radio but not listed, it replaced 134.80 which is listed but has since been moved to the "KIPT Gnd/Twr/ZNY" radio.

On the "ZNY (North Mtn RCAG)" feed you are hearing the controller on 132.15 (sector 74 - Broadway). Sector 74 is frequently combined into Sector 92 Pottstown - 124.62. When combined they put all the aircraft on 124.62 as the primary but the controller continues to simulcast on 132.15. I believe this is what you are hearing.

The fastest way to tell if the 74/92 sectors are split or combined is to note the EWR/LGA arrivals on the handoff from 128.57, if the sectors are split they handoff to 132.15, and if combined to 124.62.

During off peak times sectors 74/92, or just 92, will also combine with sectors 91/93 (covered on the "KIPT Gnd/Twr/ZNY" feed).

On the midnight shift I believe ZNY turns on 127.725 and that this frequency is also on the North Mountain radio but not listed either ?

Dave, any chance the frequency listings for these feeds could be updated to confirm the above ?

Yes...I will verify the settings on our radios there and update the listings, if needed. I was pretty sure they were current.

Thanks Dave. Just to clarify the actual frequencies don't need to be changed on either radio, just the listings need to be updated.

Is this one of your feeds ? How practical would it be to add another radio to offload some of the congestion at this location ? These sectors are very very busy.

"Rare" is an un understatement.  It hardly ever happens  :-) Actually, it's the first time I've heard ZNY 128.675 used for 132.1.  Unfortunately, when ZNY does this, it seems to last for only a very short time before they go back to the original frequency.  I found it interesting though that ZNY used 128.675 out of the Douglaston RCAG in place of 132.1...it's a fair distance away from that area but it seemed to work just fine.

By the way, I've written to the FAA several times demanding that they place ZNY 128.675 in service full time so that my JFK area feed can capture both sides of the transmissions...sadly, I don't understand why I haven't gotten a reply from them yet...(just kidding, I really didn't write them  :-D )
