Wanting to start a new feed
« on: January 20, 2006, 09:21:03 PM »
Hello,
I just recently found this site and I absolutely love it.  I live in Lake Charles, La. and I am about 3 miles from Lake Charles Regional as the crow flies.  I want to get a feed set up for Lake Charles Approach/Departure and possibly tower (if I can pick up both ends of the conversation) but I need some instruction on what I need to get a feed started (antennae, scanners, and how do I hook it up to my computer to broadcast it over liveatc.net.) I know this is not a very big airport (class D airspace) but with the recent hurricanes, KLCH has been very busy every day.  Thanks in advance for everyones help.  Steve.

What is required to run a feed.

Welcome to LiveATC.net, Steve!

Oh a Lake Charles Feed would be exciting. I've flown into there a few times and it's a great little airport.

I've also been pondering starting a MSY feed for a while. Maybe I'll get an antenna and a new scanner for the birthday and get it started.

Good luck with LCH.

Another new feed?

I have also been considering providing a feed. I receive both Stewart International (Newburgh,NY, soon to be re-named New York Hudson Valley International) and Dutchess County (Poughkeepsie,NY) Airports as well as NY Approach (PWL) and Boston Center. I can hear both ATC and aircraft clearly on these freqs. as well as numerous local unicoms and CTAF's.
Sound like it's worth a feed?

Sure!  Stewart is busier than Poughkeepsie, but they're both worth a shot.  I think you'd pick up the SWF05 (ZBW low-alt sector) on 134.3, ATHENS38 on 135.32 and maybe even RKA10 on 124.12 (Both ZBW high-alt sectors)  The ATHENS sector gets very busy and is just where my feed breaks off.....many handoffs there from the IGN20 sector.

NY Approach would also be neat....which frequency do you pick up?  I'm not sure if you're close enough to the transmitters, but the NOBBI sector (126.4) sure gets a a bundle of traffic.

Good Luck!  ...and feel free to ask any questions.

Yes, it's the 134.3 BOS/CTR and 132.75 NYAPR (off PWL which I live very close to) that I can get both sides of the conversation on. I can pick up most aircraft on 126.4 but I don't usually get the controller although most of the southbound traffic from 132.75 gets handed off to them.
I can also hear Sky Acres CTAF and unicom which I live very close to, and they get a ton of traffic on the CAVU weekends (mostly you HPN guys coming in for a $100 breakfast).

I would say Liberty Catskill 32.75

hehe, answered as I was typing. I would like to hear what kinda of traffic that sector pushes.

Forgot about the Liberty sectors, yet they're in the exact middle of the TRACON....now I remember...good idea!
