Here's a video from Zurich of some guys having a bad day. Notice that each upset is just about in the same spot. Most likely wind is hitting a building or hill

All I have to say is WOW!!! :-o That is what you call the Butt-pucker Factor!
Every airplane crabbing so far to the left, tho First Officer has to look out his side window to see the runway! Just kidding, it wasn't that extreme...but bad enough! That turboprop, looked like a Kingair, got bounced around real good! Im surprised he landed it! I'll bet he needed a new pair of shorts after that one! :-D

Hey Cessna,
Do you fly into DCA? Nothing funner than landing RW1 with the winds 270/20/G29 rolling over the buildings. A couple of weeks ago when the wind was so bad in the NE we were begging for the circle to land 33.

This was from Storm Quinten.
Listening to some of random ATC, LSZH2-Feb-10-2009:
- Planes landing Rwy. 28. , Surface winds 240 degrees between 24-75 knots.
from an article swissinfo.ch:

Storm causes injuries and thwarts pilots
"Planes travelling into Zurich airport also had troubles landing in the storm. An airport spokesman said 27 planes trying to land between 6am and 3pm either had to make another pass or flew on to another airport."

Ahem <cough><cough> 34
Yeah, we did quite a lot of DCA a while ago. Not so much anymore. But I have flown in there, just not with a wind that high.
Many of the times I've flown into DCA, the winds were strong out of the WSW (and of course it was my leg to fly). That makes the final turn over the park on the RV19 quite difficult

You mean 3 and 36 bumped up 1, but 33 didn't? Wow, how odd.
But I never used 33. Was too short for the -900, and I don't think I ever took the -700 in there
-
I've taken the 170 to 33 many times and the 175 a few if light.

I thought that Beech King Air is guuna crash lol
